Engagement Pictures by lybphotos.com
A couple of weeks ago Kip and I got our engagement pictures made by our awesome photographer, Lexie Bush of lybhotos.com (check out her work, it is awesome!) We had never really gotten professional pictures made other than at church (haha!). We are both picky about pictures of ourselves and we thought it would be pretty awkward, but it actually turned into a fun evening!! We started out at a field of pretty yellow flowers in Southside by the softball fields. Not gonna lie, that was a little awkward. It was the start of the pictures and we weren't very comfortable yet. It got better as the afternoon went on though! We then went to Kip's family farm in Ohatchee. That was a pretty special place since it was something personal to us (but more to Kip). I think we opened up a little more since we were in a familiar place! We spend the majority of our time at the farm! I cannot wait to see how all the pictures turned out! After we spent probably about an hour at the farm, we went to the Big Oak Boys Ranch in Ohatchee to a little lake they have on the property. We took a few pictures on the pier and then Lexie and Kip decided that we should take the canoe out. I wasn't too thrilled about that...I was in a dress after-all. I was so afraid I would fall in the water! Looking back on it now, I absolutely loved that we took pictures in the canoe...and I cannot wait to see those! We should be able to preview our pictures sometime this week and when I get them, I will definitely put a few of my favorites on here! Here is one that was taken at the farm:

Prayers for Baby Wren
A Facebook friend of mine, whom I have never met, posted yesterday about her unborn child, Wren. Recently, it was discovered that Baby Wren has Trisomy 13. This is her and her new husband's first baby. I just ask that you all please pray for this sweet family as they go through this very difficult time in their lives. Miracles happen every single day and with God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
In case you aren't sure what Trisomy 13 is, here is some information:
Trisomy 13, also called Patau syndrome, is a chromosomal condition associated with severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities in many parts of the body. Individuals with trisomy 13 often have heart defects, brain or spinal cord abnormalities, very small or poorly developed eyes (microphthalmia), extra fingers and/or toes, an opening in the lip (a cleft lip) with or without an opening in the roof of the mouth (a cleft palate), and weak muscle tone (hypotonia). Due to the presence of several life-threatening medical problems, many infants with trisomy 13 die within their first days or weeks of life. Only five percent to 10 percent of children with this condition live past their first year.

Most cases of trisomy 13 result from having three copies of chromosome 13 in each cell in the body instead of the usual two copies. The extra genetic material disrupts the normal course of development, causing the characteristic features of trisomy 13.
Trisomy 13 can also occur when part of chromosome 13 becomes attached (translocated) to another chromosome during the formation of reproductive cells (eggs and sperm) or very early in fetal development. Affected people have two normal copies of chromosome 13, plus an extra copy of chromosome 13 attached to another chromosome. In rare cases, only part of chromosome 13 is present in three copies. The physical signs and symptoms in these cases may be different than those found in full trisomy 13.
A small percentage of people with trisomy 13 have an extra copy of chromosome 13 in only some of the body's cells. In these people, the condition is called mosaic trisomy 13. The severity of mosaic trisomy 13 depends on the type and number of cells that have the extra chromosome. The physical features of mosaic trisomy 13 are often milder than those of full trisomy 13.
Most cases of trisomy 13 are not inherited and result from random events during the formation of eggs and sperm in healthy parents. An error in cell division called nondisjunction results in a reproductive cell with an abnormal number of chromosomes. For example, an egg or sperm cell may gain an extra copy of chromosome 13. If one of these atypical reproductive cells contributes to the genetic makeup of a child, the child will have an extra chromosome 13 in each cell of the body.
Translocation trisomy 13 can be inherited. An unaffected person can carry a rearrangement of genetic material between chromosome 13 and another chromosome. These rearrangements are called balanced translocations because there is no extra material from chromosome 13. A person with a balanced translocation involving chromosome 13 has an increased chance of passing extra material from chromosome 13 to their children.

Once again, I ask that you please be in prayer for the Harrington family during this very difficult time!

Divorce
It's been a while since I have posted anything on here. I have been super busy with school and work that I haven't really had time to do too much wedding planning or anything else! I have just been thinking about the divorce rate lately...and how much it has increased over the years. I have come to the conclusion (and I may be late on this) but I believe the divorce rate is increasing at the use of technology increases. Think about it, many years ago, before the age of cell phones and text messaging, social media, email, internet, etc. the only way we had to communicate with others was by a phone call or a hand written letter. How hard would it have been to cheat on your husband or wife back then? VERY HARD! You would have to be super sneaky to communicate with your "lover" without the use of cell phones, texting, email, etc. Now-a-days it is much easier to sneak around. We all have our own personal cell phone that we can call or text whoever we want to without anybody else knowing (unless we look through their phones, but there is a button called DELETE that can be used to hide anything and everything). It makes it so much easier to communicate with other men or women without our spouse knowing about it. Another thing is this new invention called SnapChat....STUPID STUPID STUPID. What can you use that for...other than sexting. Seriously? Talk about sneaking around....that would be the best way to do it. Not many people have the will power to say NO when another male/female (not your spouse) wants to give you attention. If you think about it, it definitely makes sense. Think about all the ways, with Facebook & Twitter & other social media sites you can sneak around with others much easier. It is very sad. It makes me kind of nervous to start a marriage in this crazy messed up world. I just have to have hope that Kip will be faithful for the rest of our lives...but it is still a scary situation. I do not want to be one of those divorce numbers later in life. I am just trusting that Kip will always be faithful. But it is a scary world to start a new marriage & family!

2012 Re-Cap!
This blog is solely for my own personal use, and because I am super busy 99% of the time, I don't remember every little detail about my life....so hence we have a blog! :) Because Kip & I are beginning our wedding planning process, I want to be able to remember the special moments we encounter throughout this wonderful journey!
2012 was a year filled with many ups and downs, but the ups definitely trump the downs! :) I look forward to what 2013 has in store for Kip & I! :)
January 2012:
*Bama wins their 14th National Title!! The 3rd of my lifetime & 2nd in the last few years!
*Annual Gatlinburg trip with the church-We stayed at a different place than we are used to staying and it was something else...but we definitely made memories that will last a lifetime!
*Kip worked his first "plane crash" with the EMA/Sheriff's Office. We were going to dinner and a movie (that we NEVER do) and on our way to eat, we were interrupted by a small plane crash in Rainbow City. We finally got dinner, at Chick-Fil-A, and spent the rest of the night at the EMA...but he is doing what he loves, so I can't complain!
February 2012:
*Celebrated my 24th birthday!
*We spend Valentines Day at my brother's basketball practice & eating at Flipside. We aren't so much the "romantic" type! :)
*My beloved tanning salon in Jacksonville burned to the ground! :( It was a sad day for me.
*My parents re-did our living room (sort of). Bought new tables and a new couch & got a new TV. Talk about an experience! We bought a TV at Walmart in East Gadsden (at like 9:30 at night), got it home and it didn't work. So we called around to see if any Walmart in our area had another one...and of course-Boaz did. So about midnight-off to Boaz Walmart we go to swap TVs. Talk about an interesting night!
*Kipper celebrated his 22nd birthday!
March 2012:
*My first volunteering experience at the EMA for severe weather on March 3rd!
*Went to my first Auburn basketball game-and wore orange and blue for the first time-NOT proud of that BTW! ;)
*Got to be present for Graison's FIRST football game: Southside/Glencoe Alumni football game! I love that lil boy!
*Met Brad Smelly! :)
April 2012:
*Finally met Jerrell Harris & Dre Kirkpatrick (Gadsden Boys who played at BAMA!)
*Easter 2012!
*Went to LOTS of autograph sessions with Kip & met lots of famous football players!
May 2012:
*Phillip Phillips won American Idol!!
*Celebrated Dre & Jerrell going to play in the NFL!
*Met Marcell Dareus!
June 2012:
*Took my first ever summer classes & made it through!
*Went to the Regions Charity Classic at Shoal Creek
*Celebrated Kip's cousin John & Jac's wedding!
*Met Eryk Anders & Prince Wimbley (both Bama players, Eryk from 2009 & Prince from 1992)
July 2012:
*Annual Beach trip to Panama City! This time we got to spend some time with my best friend and her sweet family the day we got there! And got to swim with dolphins for the first time ever!
*Celebrated my sweet friend Mary's son Lucas's first birthday!
*All the Chick-Fil-A mess happened! Proud of them for standing their ground!
Will continue the year re-cap soon! :) Got other things to do.

I am ENGAGED!
I never thought this day would come. All my friends were getting engaged, married, and having babies. Here I was off to the side still in college with no big news to share when we would all get together. At Christmas parties and get-togethers with my friends from high school, I always felt kind of left out. They were all talking about their weddings, jobs, kids, etc. I had nothing to talk about, except that I was still in school and not close to graduating. I just always sat there listening to their stories and secretly wishing I was in the same boat. When a friend from church recently got engaged, I was UPSET. Major Upset. So upset I couldn't hardly speak to her. I did not know I would be that way and it upset me greatly. As always, I talked to my best friend, Jillian, who always gives me the BEST advice. I expressed my feelings to her and she kept telling me, Your time is coming. It was hard to accept, but finally I did. Kip and I had been together for 7 YEARS! Surely he would get me a ring soon, right? We were close to being done with school (both within the next year). I did not want to be the girl that FORCED her boyfriend to propose, so I just didn't say much about it. I accepted the fact that we would one day get to share our story with everyone just as all the others had already done. The rest of Fall went by so quickly. Kip & I stayed busy with school, so my mind didn't have much time to wander. On November 15th, we had our Thanksgiving Dinner at the daycare. Kip came by after class and was going to stay and eat. While we were getting stuff ready for the dinner, he told me Graison was sick. I asked if he saw Jillian out somewhere and he said, "No, I talked to her on the phone." I said oh did she call you and he said, "No I called her". He wouldn't tell me why he called. I did not think much about it at first, other than I thought it was weird that he called Jillian. The following Sunday, he told me that a guy he worked with wanted Kip to go to Kay's in the mall with him. (Why he told me that, I do not know-He is not the best secret keeper!) I immediately begin to think that he was getting me something very special on that day....something shiny that I have been wanting for a while. I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I couldn't help but think that is what he was doing. He tried to play it off like he didn't buy anything that day...saying they didn't have anything. That got my mind to thinking that I was wrong...until Kip started planning for us to go to the Falls on December 13th....on November 20th. A little over 3 weeks before.....and Kip NEVER plans anything. I knew something was up. I was so excited I couldn't stand it and wanted to tell someone!! I told Shelly at church and Holly at work. I was afraid to talk to Jillian and my mom about it, because I did not want to put them in an awkward position since I knew that they both probably knew what was going on. On December 4th, I was at Kip's house and he was playing Xbox. He had his headset on talking to Kyle when I heard Kyle ask about the "big night at the falls." (Kip didn't know I could here Kyle) I instantly knew what was going on. I was so excited!!! I didn't say anything and played it off like I was messing with my phone and not paying any attention. I was so anxious and nervous and excited and ready for Thursday I couldn't stand it. Thursday finally rolled around and I was so nervous...thinking I had gotten my hopes up about the whole thing. I couldn't hardly eat anything at all. After doing some running around town when I got off work, I went to Kip's house. We sat around watching TV for a while and then got ready to go to the Falls. We met Clai, Jillian, and Graison there about 5:30 that night. We rode the train, took Graison to see Santa, went to the "petting zoo" and saw the animals, and then walked around the Falls. I was getting so nervous I didn't know what to do with myself. When we finally made it around to the Falls, we took our annual picture in front of it. I just knew this was when he was going to get down on one knee. I was mistaken--He didn't get down on one knee. We took 2 pictures and he walked back to Jillian to look at them to make sure they looked ok. I was so upset!! He said that we needed to take another picture so we walked back to the fence in front of the Falls and he then got down on one knee. I was so ecstatic. I cried and couldn't say anything. He didn't either. A few minutes when by and he said, "Well..." I chuckled and said of course! It was so funny, because that is so Kip. He is not a man of many words and sounds just like something he would do! It was perfect!! We are so excited and cannot wait to start planning our perfect day! We want to wait until the first of the year to make any definite plans, but I have so many ideas in my head I don't know what to do with them all. Wedding planning sounds so stressful, but fun! I cannot wait! :)

After a few months, I kinda started liking him a little...but I did not tell a SOUL because I knew that Kyle and all the other guys would make fun of me so bad! I held it in until the night of our dinner theater when I told my bestest, Jillian. Little did I know, Kyle was hiding around the corner listening to every word I said. As soon as I finished talking to Jillian I hear Kyle go running outside to everybody yelling Lauren likes Kip! I was so embarrassed and tried to play it off like Kyle was full of it. Well...not long after that, Kip and I really started talking and on December 13, 2005, we sang Christmas songs at the Gadsden Mall. Kip was suppose to ride home with Justin, but someone missed that ride and asked me to take him home.
